ROTK5 Chinese for Mac OS X: Romance of the Three Kingdoms V in Traditional Chinese Chinese edition, revision 0.3 (14 October 2026): a first build, not finished The game and its Power-Up Kit in Traditional Chinese, as native PowerPC applications for Mac OS X 10.4. No Classic environment is used. They are made from the Japanese MP3 edition with the text, the font and the pictures of the Chinese DOS edition, and run under the Mac OS X host of revision 3, unchanged. To install: copy the folder "ROTK5 Chinese" to a disk you can write to (the game saves into its own folder). Start "ROTK5 Chinese" (the game) or "ROTK5 PUK Chinese" (the Power-Up Kit). Keep the folder whole. Over an earlier revision: replace the whole folder (saved games are in S5DATA and PKDATA as SAVEDATA.S5: keep a copy of those two files and put them back). What it needs: Mac OS X 10.4 on a PowerPC Macintosh. Nothing has to be installed: the Chinese font is inside the game, and Mac OS X shows the menus, the About box and the window's title in Chinese by itself. QuickTime plays the music from the Music folder. New in 0.3: - The screen where a name is entered (New Officers, and New Items in the Power-Up Kit) picks Chinese characters by pinyin. Its 46 buttons each bring up the characters of the syllables from the one on the button (a, ba, bi ... zhao, zhuang) up to the next button's: liu is under "liu", bei under "ba", qing under "qi". A character with two readings is under both. One more button in the bottom row brings up every character by stroke count, for one whose reading you do not know. The screen no longer asks for a reading in kana. - The small Latin letters of the game are readable: u, n, m and w came out as blocks (on those buttons and in the 0.2 labels). Not finished in 0.3: - The two movies are the Japanese ones. - The small map's caption is the Japanese one; on the victory-conditions screen two lines touch their buttons; the battle record writes a rank without its ordinal sign. - One campaign has been played on Mac OS X, six game months long, saving and loading games; much of the game has not been checked on the screen. Words the game builds from pieces may come out in the Japanese edition's wording, or, where the Japanese held kana, in kana. The sound was not listened to in this edition. Saved games are the same files as the Mac OS 9 edition's and the Japanese edition's.
